Socket cards are typically the LED driver. There are two basic types: Constant Current (CC) where the current is regulated and the voltage varies depending on what the LED draws, and Switched Voltage (SV) where a fixed 48V is sent to the device and its internal regulator accepts the 48V directly.
Switched Voltage (SV) socket cards are for strip or tape LEDs, Bulb Fixtures (AC style), and other devices that have their own power regulators inside that accept 48VDC directly. These are dimmable by allowing PWM of the 48V and can dim strips easily below 0.1%.
