A Smart Interface Block (SIB) is the interface between a fixture and the CAT5/6 cable run. It connects at the fixture's point of installation and communicates back to the Socket Card the operational and safety specifications of the fixture.

This is a SIB with External Power input. Instead of taking the 48V power from the PDM, it draws power from a separate 12-48V power supply via a connected 16/2 wire, which can be run in parallel with the CAT5/6 wire. This SIB then PWM-regulates the power up to 300W across 4 channels, which can be used to control two tunable white strips, or a RGB/RGBW strip, or four single-channel strip LED zones.

This SIB also has 1 digital input and 1 digital output which can be used to trigger different events in the system. For example, the digital input is excellent for monitoring a nearby device or smoke detector relay, while the digital output is perfect for controlling standby/enable on an external AC/DC power supply.

One major benefit of EP SIBs is that they can accept voltages other than 48V input, so you can also power a 12V or 24V LED light from the EP connection, giving you ultimate installation flexibility. When using an EP SIB, the CAT5/6 only provides communication data, not power.

Like Active SIBs, EPs can be individually controlled, independent of other devices on the same run. This is especially useful for when one run needs to support a variety of different loads. However unlike Active SIBs, since EP SIBs draw all their power externally, they can be used with any of the CC, PV, or CV Socket Cards, and have their own addressable zones depending on the mode setting (RGBW, 2xCCT, 4ch).
